V-impact App

VolunteerMatch aims to unveil volunteers' hidden generosity and create an engaging platform to showcase their volunteerism to the world.

Objective:
The challenge is to optimize VolunteerMatch, the web's largest volunteer network, to harness the power of today's engagement and enable volunteers to share their experiences on social platforms. The goal is to design an app that becomes a trusted source for nonprofits and volunteers, facilitating the creation of public "volunteer profiles" for sharing experiences, connecting with others, and discovering causes and events.

Solutions:
We aimed to create an inclusive and user-centric platform that celebrates volunteers' efforts, encourages continuous engagement, and fosters a dynamic volunteering community that empowers positive change in society. As the UX designer spearheading the product's future, in collaboration with the product team, we envisioned building an app with the following key features:
  • Volunteer Visibility: Volunteers can build and showcase their public volunteer profile, highlighting their experiences and contributions.
  • Social Connectivity: Facilitate communication and connections between volunteers, friends, and nonprofits.
  • Personalized Content: Provide location-specific content, including recommended events, opportunities, and volunteer activities.
  • Communication: Deliver event invites, reminders, and notifications for volunteer opportunities and engagements.

Insights Behind the Solutions:
  1. Volunteer Visibility: We recognized that showcasing volunteers' contributions on social platforms could inspire others to participate in volunteerism and create a ripple effect of generosity. By designing a comprehensive volunteer profile feature, we aimed to empower volunteers to share their experiences proudly, thereby increasing the visibility and impact of their efforts.
  2. Community Building: Volunteers often seek connections and a sense of belonging within a community of like-minded individuals. Incorporating social connectivity features was essential to foster a supportive environment where volunteers could interact, share insights, and collaborate on future initiatives, amplifying the overall volunteering experience.
  3. Personalization for Engagement: Understanding that volunteers are more likely to engage with opportunities relevant to their interests and locations, we designed the app to provide tailored content. By delivering location-specific event recommendations and notifications, volunteers could easily find and engage in causes that resonated with them, leading to higher retention and engagement rates.
  4. Real-time Communication: Timely communication is critical in the fast-paced world of volunteering. By incorporating event notifications, invites, and messages, volunteers could stay informed about upcoming opportunities, rate experiences, and celebrate their peers' achievements, fostering a supportive and active volunteering community.
  5. UX Consistency and Familiarity: Building upon VolunteerMatch's existing visual style and color scheme ensured a seamless and familiar user experience for existing users. The incorporation of material design guidelines further enhanced usability and comfort, making it easier for volunteers to navigate and interact with the app.
